The Popcorn Man

Hong Kong | The Popcorn Man II | © DM Barlow (2017)

With each passing month, Futureworld – the high-rise, concrete, glass and steel edifices of modern Shanghai – swallows up another old lane, another irreplaceable 1920s shikumen community.  Soon, only tomorrow will exist and wonderful, Dickensian characters like the popcorn man (who makes and sells popped rice) will be no more.

Photographed on Christmas Day 2012 using a 24-105m.m lens;  minor adjustments in Camera Raw, then converted to black and white using the Silver Efex Pro plugin for Photoshop (without a doubt the best montone  software out there).
