Jared is a talented Autralian artist based in Shanghai: he paints unique, compelling abstracts in colours made from bricks he finds in demolished lanes and shikumen throughout the city. I took this portrait late one evening in one such lane (it has since been destroyed) with a 24-105 lens. Jared had to remain very still for this 20-second exposure. Processing was done in Camera Raw: I bumped up Shadow, made minor adjustments to colour and tone, then reduced noise. In all about ten minutes’ work.
